What is data residency? How it relates to KVKK and GDPR
Short answer: Data residency defines in which country and on which servers personal data is stored. KVKK and GDPR set conditions for transfers outside that region.
Why it matters
- KVKK and GDPR make cross-border transfers conditional.
- Some organisations require data to stay in specific regions.
- A nearby region can also reduce latency.
How Attrely handles it
Each property belongs to one region. Requests that reach the wrong region are rejected and nothing is stored. Transfers between regions are never automatic.
Questions to ask any vendor
Where is the data stored, who are the sub-processors, how long is it kept, and what are the transfer conditions? Ask for the answers in writing.
