Why data residency matters: region choice and transfers
Short answer: Data residency is the country and server where data is stored. If measurement data is not moved automatically outside its region, legal risk and latency both go down.
Why it matters
- KVKK and GDPR make cross-border transfers conditional.
- Some organisations require data to stay in particular regions.
- A nearby region can reduce latency for measurement requests.
Attrely's approach
Each property is tied to one region. Requests that reach the wrong region are refused and nothing is saved. Transfers between regions are only made with the property owner's explicit, time-limited approval.
What to ask
Ask the vendor in writing where data is stored, who the sub-processors are, how long data is kept and under what conditions it is transferred.
